What a strange title for a blog post, eh? I won't keep you in suspense any longer. It stands for "What Would Obama Do? Then Do The Opposite!" Okay, so it's not quite as succinct as What Would Jesus Do?, but I figure the outcomes might be fairly similar. I've come to the point where I've realized practically everything Obama has said, done, or stood for (other than calling Kanye West a jack-a$$, I can live with that,) would be the exact opposite what I would do. I could list all the things Obama has done which I disagree with, but I still want to have some free time this weekend. I'm also sure I'd be just beating a dead horse by listing them, plus I'm guessing the blog has a limitation on how many characters are allowed per post. I still think I should list a few which I would have done the polar opposite on.
A: Afghanistan. I would defer to the advice of my generals and do as they recommend. The great Chinese military tactician Sun Tzu basically explained that a leader who interferes and micromanages a war, especially against the advice of his generals, is doomed to fail. If my top generals ask for more troops, I'd give them more troops. If they told me to pull the plug, I'd do so. They have their direct chain of command, and know the battlefield better than a group of politicians or a distant Washington thinktank.
B: Taxation. The commentator Neal Boortz made a great point; how many people have been hired by poor people? Giving them the tax breaks and incentives while punishing the rich only further delves our country into recession. If we punish those at the top, then innovation, leadership, and hiring all suffer. Imagine if we had someone like Obama running the show at the turn of the last century. Would there be any incentive to create automobiles if your company would be micromanaged by Washington? Would there be any incentive for the Wright brothers to create a new mode of transportation if they were taxed exponentially? Would we broaden communications if they were subject to the whims of an ever nosier government? Government does not invent, it leaches. If necessity is the mother of invention, surely government must be the lazy stepchild expecting Ma and Pa to spoil them silly.
C: Gitmo: As an Illinoisan, I can now look forward to Gitmo detainees arriving in my state rather than the Olympics (truth be told, I'd prefer neither, but it would be fun to throw javelins at the detainees.) There's an old saying; if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So what if the Euroweenies didn't much care for our treatment of Gitmo detainees. When they deal with a bunch of lunatics screaming "Death to Belgium" they'd know what it's like to have to deal with radicals. Oh wait, they do, they just give them bribes to keep their Muslims from rioting *cough, France, cough*.
D: Health Care: When Obama and Pelosi accept the government run option as their OWN health plan, instead of a separate, elite plan for congress, I'll take them slightly more seriously. I get a chill down my spine when I hear of this plan and not in a Keith Olbermann kind of way either. I think of Eichmann when I hear of death panels. I'm sure the educated readers of Townhall need no explanation of who he was, but if a liberal stumbled upon this, I'd recommend you google or wiki him.
There are too many issues to even touch on here, and as I said, I'd like to enjoy at least part of my weekend. Just keep in mind you will most likely be doing the honorable and right thing when you ask What Would Obama Do? Then Do The Opposite.
